Xavi out but should return for Arsenal

Barcelona midfielder Xavi will be out for seven to 10 days due to a slight calf strain, but should be fit to return for the Catalans' Champions League last-16 second leg against Arsenal. Xavi, 31, underwent tests and an MRI scan on Tuesday, with the club later announcing news of his likely absence on their website.

"Xavi Hernandez has a slight calf strain in his left leg and is expected to be out for around seven to 10 days,'' Barca confirmed.

The Spain star will therefore be sidelined for Saturday's Primera Division trip to Real Mallorca and could also miss the game at Valencia three days later. He should be be back for the clash with Real Sociedad next weekend, which comes days before the Gunners arrive at Camp Nou for the crunch Champions League second-leg clash.

Barca coach Pep Guardiola will also be without captain Carles Puyol and goalkeeper Victor Valdes through injury this weekend, while wing-back Dani Alves is suspended.
